The Difference Between A Texturizer And A Relaxer

A huge range of beauty products are available to manage hair health and style. It’s not always a straightforward process to get the right product for your hair type. This is particularly true if you have trouble in controlling your hair. If you understand the difference between texturizers and relaxers, you can make proper choices for your hair. Therefore, today, we will help you distinct these two types of techniques.

Texturizers

Texturizers is a type of technique that relax natural curl patterns in hair. Most of people use texturizers to take tightly curled hair and loosen it. The role of the texturizer is not to straighten hair but relieve the tension in curls. The end result is that you have loose waves of curls, rather than tightly coiled spirals. A textured hair has the advantages of being easier to comb and style without damaging hair strands.

Texturizer Application

Using a texturizer made from herbal and botanical ingredients to enhance conditioning while loosening curls.  The methods of application is different with products, but most texturizers are on hair for a short time. When a texturizer is on, hair shouldn’t be combed. This will straighten the hair rather than loosening curls.

Relaxers

Although the relaxers come with or without lye in formulation, there is still potential for scalp burning. Sodium hydroxide is a common ingredient in relaxers which may alters the pH factor of hair to straighten it. No-lye formulas use guanidine hydroxide which is less damaging but can still cause problems.

Relaxer Application

When using a relaxer, the user need to follow the instructions provided with the product concerning the application, pre- and post-conditioning as well as how frequently the product is used. The instruction of product should clearly show how long it takes to leave the relaxer on the hair after applying it. You should wash your hair with warm water when the straightening is complete. Then, apply a neutralizer because it provides chemicals which can stop the straightening action and prevent over-processing of hair.

In short, don’t forget to consider the condition of your hair when selecting the product best for your tight curls. Those with damaged hair may be more suitable for using a texturizer than a relaxer since the texturizer is less harmful than the relaxer. However, whatever you use, you will have a new appearance.
